Welcome to the Wonderful World of Goldendoodles

What Is a GoldenDoodle?

Goldendoodles are a mix between the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. Goldendoodles are a wonderful combination of the best of two well-loved breeds. Life expectancy is about 13-15 years and they require a moderate amount of exercise.

Are Goldendoodles Hypoallergenic?

Allergies are quite complex and shedding is just one component. Dander, saliva, proteins and allergens carried on a dogs coat all contribute to a person's allergic reactions. Due to this, we cannot guarantee that our dogs are hypo-allergenic. It is dependent upon each individual and his/her unique set of allergies.

Baby Blanket test

Still worried you or a loved one might be allergic to your new doodle? We offer a baby blanket testing service . We will place a baby blanket with the litter of puppies exposing it to all that their fluffy little coats have to offer and then send it to you to give a little sniff. This might not be exact science but it may be just what you need to help put your mind at ease.

If you are interested in having this test done please contact us for arrangements. There is a $75 fee for this service.

Goldendoodle coats and grooming

Goldendoodles come in many colors due to the influence of the Poodle. Their coats are classified as straight (more like a Golden Retriever), wavy, and curly (more like a Poodle). In our experience the curlier the coat the less the shedding!

Goldendoodles coats requires regular grooming. Weekly brushing using a soft slicker brush as well as a good detangling spray and a steel pet comb will work wonders!  Taking a trip to the groomers every 6-8 weeks  will  help maintain a traditional doodle cut.

Understanding the Generations

F1 = Golden Retriever x Poodle
F1B = F1 Goldendoodle x Poodle (or Goldendoodle x Golden Retriever)
F2 = F1 Goldendoodle x F1 Goldendoodle
Multigen = Two Goldendoodle parents – One parent has to be an F1B or multigen. A Poodle bred to a multigen Goldendoodle also constitutes a multigen.

How big will my Goldendoodle get?

There are 4 different sizing classifications for Goldendoodles.

Petite/Toy range: Height: below 14 inches, typically less than 25 lbs.
Miniature/Moyen range: Height: over 14 but under 17 inches, typically 26-35 lbs.
Medium range: Height: over 17 but under 21 inches, typically 36-50 lbs.
Standard range: Height: over 21 inches, typically 51 or more lbs.

What about Golden Liberty Doodles?

All of our Moyen puppies are F1b and are anticipated to be 25-35 pounds. All of our Standard puppies are Multigenerational and are anticipated to be 55- 80 pounds. Our puppies coat colors included creams, apricots, reds and blues. We have tested our dogs to ensure that each puppy will have either a wavy or curly coat as well as proper furnishings (the adorable fluffy "doodle" face)!

Why We Choose to Breed With IVDD

IVDD is present in approximately 80-95% of all miniature poodles. With this type of representation, one would expect to see manifestations in the breed. However, the Poodle Club of America as well as the Goldendoodle Association of North America (GANA) do not include IVDD as a recommended test. GANA has recently asked its breeders to track the prevalence of CDDY and its correlation with IVDD in their breeding stock, with the emphasis being placed on CDDY. Here at Golden Liberty Doodles, we try to stay as cutting edge in our testing as possible. Your goldendoodle puppy is an organic being. We can't control perfection, instead as a breeder we aim to breed happy, healthy, smart, loving, goofy and adorable family companions. Sometimes this means verifying with numerous geneticists, breeding organizations, other breeders, and respected veterinarians to ensure that we are making what we believe to be the best choice for our beloved puppies and wonderful families. At this time, we believe it is more detrimental to focus on removing a specific trait like IVDD that does not seem to manifest itself in the poodle or goldendoodle population, than risk removing other great characteristics and health traits that may inadvertently be bred out of these amazing dogs!
